Minutes of the Garbage Management Workshop held on
Parish hall at Chandor

Attendance: In all there were 43 persons present including Janet Silveira – Cavorim Chandor Pancha, Jose Antao – Guirdolim Pancha, Santana Antao – President Basic Christian Community

President Rui da Silva welcomed the gathering and also introduced the Resource Personnel Clinton Vaz.

Clinton Vaz then gave a nearly one-and-a-half hour power point presentation pertaining to garbage management, along with a demonstration of segregation of waste at home. He suggested that medical waste be handed over to the nearest doctor.

He gave a demonstration of the segregation of waste at source by showing what should go into the bin for wet waste and what should not go. He also explained in detail how the wet waste can be turned into compost.

For the dry waste, he said plastic should be kept and collected at regular intervals from the households and then be sold to recyclers. He stressed that genuine recyclers would pay for the plastic and advised to be cautious of people who are not paying as they would just go and dump the plastic somewhere.

Glass bottles and cans can also be recycled and hence should be collected. While companies have now started taking back batteries he said that at the moment there was no solution to deal with rubber which at the most can be used as a liner for playgrounds so that children can have a soft landing in case of a fall.

As a token of appreciation, Mr. Vaz was presented a basket of mangoes by Sita Antao, which gift was much appreciated by him.

It was decided that a similar presentation be given to the Parish Pastoral Council and Sita Antao along with Santana Antao took up the responsibility to do the needful.

Santana Antao volunteered to take up the issue of discussing the garbage management topic at the meetings of Somudai where a power point presentation would be presented to the people.

As it was unanimously accepted that Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott take up garbage management the following volunteered to take up the responsibility in their respective wards:
